Elevator Pitch. Imagine yourself on an elevator. In walks a potential client. What can you say between the first and third floors that will convince him that you are the service provider for him? Your time on the elevator is limited, and you must get right to the point. Waste your time, and you have lost your chance.
You never know when an opportunity will present itself to showcase (and maybe brag a little) about your business. You might run into an old friend who asks what you’re doing these days. You may run into a potential client or customer in line at a supermarket or gas station. They may see your uniform or a piece of your company swag and ask what you do. You need to be ready at any time to talk about what you do.
1. A Clear Introduction to Your Business
Who are you? In ten words attempt to say who you are the name of your business.
2. A Clear Explanation of the Problem You Solve
Why does your business exist? In fifteen or twenty words, explain what your business does by identifying the problems you solve.
3. A Compelling Reason to Use Your Company
Show off some of the unique features of your business in ten to twenty words.
4. Wrap Up with a Convincing Call to Action
In less than ten words ask them to contact you and give them a means to do so.
Here is a sample elevator pitch for a landscaping company:
I am Scott, and I own Outdoor Finishes. We transform outdoor spaces into luxurious oases. We specialize in creating stunning, custom landscapes tailored to the unique needs of discerning homeowners. From meticulous lawn care to exquisite planting designs, we can elevate your property to new heights. Here is my card. Call me. I would love to create a personalized outdoor experience that reflects your taste and lifestyle.
